These clips are from the BBC: Horizon documentary series entitled “We Love Cigarettes”. The advice Allen Carr gives is pretty good, it convinced me (a 5 year smoker) to quit cold turkey. It has been a couple months now and I’m still going strong.

Update:

It has been over one year since my last cigarette and I have never been tempted to look back. I really hope this simple advice has helped someone else.

You can get free nicotine patches in the US if you want to quit smoking. I quit on my own years ago, but some people really need that nicotine or they can’t stop.

If you have tried it, how does it work?

Tobacco is more available than heroin and easier to quit. Nicotine is a very powerful addictive drug.

After you quit, you will get cravings for a smoke. This is what you have to defeat, the body’s need for more nicotine. Putting more in your body is not the way to do it. You have to quit, but it is hard. It is very, very hard.

Personally, I don’t think the hypnosis works because you can’t convince your body you don’t crave nicotine.

What you need is something that will help you ward off the cravings.

I found what worked for me was homeopathic remedies that are available at larger health food stores. I tried several until I found one that helped me. It is from a company called Newton Labs. It is a little brown "eye dropper" bottle that you carry around with you. When you get a craving, you put some drops behind your teeth, under your tongue and like magic, the cravings go away. The stuff is called Tobacco Addiction.
It has no taste and is about ten bucks a bottle.

I was a heavy smoker and it took five bottles before I was able to "survive". The secret is to make a commitment.
You have to throw out all your ash trays, all your lighters everything you have that reminds you of smoking.

Once I did that, I was able to quit it for good. Oh, I still get
a craving after a big meal or something, but it is not bad now
and it goes away.

I am so glad I quit. I feel better. I can breathe better. I don’t
smell bad. Quitting is a good thing you can do for yourself.
Do it!

Struggling to quit smoking, keep getting VERY bloated, 7-10 pound weight gain in a week, constipation, etc. Have quit 6-7 times this year…same thing…and I start smoking again! Plan to quit tomorrow…Tuesday AGAIN. Plan to try nicorettes, but don’t know if that will help. I know someone out here has some answers…and I guess it’s my turn to ask for help!

I found some articles: http://www.watchtower.org/e/20000322/article_03.htm –> about stoping smoke

Also maybe you can try a HCG diet. From others I know that this drug is doing his job. (http://hcgpregnyl.info/ , http://www.drugdelivery.ca/rv3559-all-0-1-1-x-hcg-pregnyl-104604-s-reviews.aspx)

Sometimes hospitals have smoking cessation support groups. If you call some of the pulmonologists in your area, they should know of groups–and may even conduct one themselves. Mental health clinics are another source–if they don’t have a group they can usually refer you to one.

I have gone through attending a course to stop smoking but it only worked a short while and I’m back at it. Now someone suggested that I try to stop smoking through hypnosis.

I need to stop as my wife is mad and my doctor is telling me I may only have a few more years to live if I continue.

I was also tired of my doctor, friends and family getting on my back and telling me to stop smoking.

But even if you want to, it is not easy. I finally stopped smoking through hypnosis. I found a good course by Valerie Dawson. It is a guide that takes you by the hand and leads you step by step, teaching you the secrets of hypnosis that make quitting so easy.

The hypnosis sessions felt very relaxing and calming. I have not had any cravings and my wife is very happy.

I am a habitual hash smoker. I have been smoking pot for the last 22 years. I have a life, and I work hard, but I just cant seem to knock it off. Im not a scruffy junkie or anything. But everytime I think I’ll stop, even for a week, I just end up frantic. My wife ends up telling me to go and get some and chill out a bit!
Im not anti drugs, and feel its anybodys right to do whatever they want, but has anyone got any good advice, maybe backed up with experience?
I havent been clean and straight for over 20 years now and I feel there is more to me than this.
I have lots of good memories, all of them with an under current of being a bit stoned and a bit dull because of it.
I have used pretty much all other drugs at some time or another, recreationally, but I always smoke pot every day.
So? Any good ideas? I dont want to have to hate it, so no exteme hypno, and all of my freinds smoke and I dont want to have to ditch them, so no big enviroment change therapies either.
Oh, and dont just judge me either. I am a good guy and I dont abuse or misuse other humans.
Just a bit fed up with it all, is all.
If I sound like someone who doesnt really want to quit its because I cant be bothered to quit…. which is kinda my point. Ive lost a lot of my ambition and will power. (lol) and it just seems easier to get stoned, although I dont even really get stoned anymore…..

Sorrt dude, just stop. I smoked pretty much every day for 15 years, my friends are pot heads too. I stayed in for a week, when I stopped to give me a chance to get used to it and then started my social life again without the pot.

There were no withdrawal symptoms, I don’t even particularly feel like I’m missing out on anything either.
