Jed Rose, PhD, director of the Duke Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research, talks about the latest research in smoking cessation. Rose is the co-creator of the nicotine skin patch. The center works to develop and evaluate new smoking cessation treatments, and to find new applications and combinations of existing treatments. The center conducts studies that assess the effects of nicotine on smoking behavior and the ability of participants to successfully quit smoking. So you can’t give up smoking and you’re fed up with the bad effects of years of sucking on the weed day in and day out. And now you are beginning to notice that your health is starting to show signs of bad things ahead. Well then don’t you think it’s time to do something about it!

Yes you do..! So you might want to know what is the smoking cessation process all about. Let me put it to you as an example, have you ever made up your mind to do something and then gone ahead and done it?

Well there you are, apply the same principals to quitting smoking and you are effectively using the smoking cessation process. It’s as simple as that, no tricks, no scams, just you telling yourself to stop, because you really want to stop.

OK so now you know what to do, so your next question I suspect is how do You DO IT?

Your mindset is the key to the smoking cessation process being successful, when you get that right everything just fall into place.

Most people, who smoke, associate a lot of negativity with stopping smoking and they place positive feelings with actually smoking, when it should be the complete opposite. Reverse this mindset and your almost home.

How do you do that, well you inject a bit of reality into the issue? For instance, Smokers generally die 12 before their natural check out time, that’s what the experts say! Smoker’s life quality degenerates much quicker than non-smokers. Smokers can look forward to being breathless before, after and during sex, that’s a fact! Smokers end up loosing limbs due to bad circulation as a result of smoking. All of these are very negative and rightly so, these are realistic outcomes which await a lot of smokers.

Now you have to attach positive experiences to smoking cessation, As soon as you stop smoking, you will feel that you are getting more from life, better health, longer life, more optimistic outlook and the gratitude from you family and friends who are so happy that you have quit.

You can plan to get back into shape, take up hobbies like gardening, walking, marathon running, mountain climbing, anything you have always wanted to do, but due to the negative effects that smoking was having on your life, you never got to do them.

The withdrawal symptoms that people complain of after quitting smoking can easily be overcome using your mind, however there are some very good quit smoking aids available, which can help you over the initial period after stopping smoking, if you are finding it difficult.

Smoking cessation is a continuous process and a very successful one at that, use your mind as much as you can to deal with what life throws at you, that’s what its is there for. I look forward to sharing more of my thoughts and knowledge with you in the future…
